This guide contains all the information you need to learn how to use CookBuddy and get the most out of your CookBook. Here you can find explanations on how everything works, along with step-by-step instructions on how to do most anything in CookBuddy, along with provided instructional videos showing you each step along the way.

The CookBook

Your CookBook is the home for every recipe you save in CookBuddy. This section walks through each part of the CookBook screen and what every button does, so you always know where to look.

Parts of the CookBook

When you open your CookBook, you will see a few different areas on the screen:

The CookBook Header. Across the top of your CookBook is the header bar. In the center you will see the CookBook title. To the left is the Back button, which appears when you are inside a folder and takes you up one level. To the right are the green outlined Edit button and the green Add Folder (+ folder) button, which you use to manage and organize the items in your CookBook.
The Recipe List. This is the main area under the CookBook title. Every recipe and folder you have saved appears here as a row with a thumbnail, a name, and (for recipes) the author when one is available. Recipes will also have a badge on the right side showing the platform the recipe came from (TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest, or a webpage). Newer recipes and folders will appear at the bottom of the list, and you can open any recipe or folder by clicking or tapping anywhere on its row.
The Folder Path. At the top of the list you will see a home icon followed by the folders you have opened, separated by >. This shows where you currently are in your CookBook. When you go deeper into nested folders, earlier folders may collapse into '. . .' so the path stays readable. These folder names will become visible again once you back out of the nested folders.
Folders. Folder rows show a folder icon, the folder name, and the label Folder underneath. Tap or click a folder to open it and view the recipes and folders stored inside. When inside a folder, the folder path will show the current folder and all of its parents.
Recipes. Recipe rows show a thumbnail (or a bookmark icon if no thumbnail is available), the recipe name, and the author when one exists. Tap or click the row to open the full recipe. On the right side of each recipe you will also see a platform icon (TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest, or webpage) that opens the original source link in a new tab.

Buttons and Controls

These are the buttons you will use most often while browsing and organizing your CookBook:

Add Recipe (+). The green square plus button above the CookBook opens the Add Recipe panel. Paste a recipe link there and click Add Recipe to generate and save a new recipe. While the panel is open, the same button turns into a yellow - that closes it again.

Add Folder (+ folder). The green button with a plus and a folder icon opens the Add Folder dialog so you can create a new folder in your current location.

Edit. The green outlined Edit button switches your CookBook into edit mode. In edit mode, extra action buttons appear on each row so you can remove items, duplicate recipes, and (on mobile) move items up one folder level. Click Edit again to leave edit mode.

Back. When you are inside a folder, a green outlined Back button appears to the left of the CookBook title. Use it to return to the previous folder (or to the top level of your CookBook).

Duplicate. In edit mode, the green duplicate button on a recipe creates another copy of that recipe in your CookBook. Useful when you want the same recipe in more than one place.

Remove (X). In edit mode, the red X button appears on recipe and folder rows. Clicking it opens a confirmation dialog so you can permanently remove that item from your CookBook. Removing a folder also removes everything stored inside it.

Move up one level. On mobile, edit mode also shows a yellow arrow button on items that are inside a folder. Tapping it moves that recipe or folder up one level in your folder hierarchy.
